An Essex council has confirmed that its annual Christmas event will be taking place this year, after comments on social media said that it would be cancelled. Basildon Borough Council has said that its Christmas event will take place “as planned”.
Basildon’s festive events typically feature the annual town centre Christmas light switch-on, family entertainment from Towngate Theatre panto stars, festive food markets and more. However, there was worry that this event would be cancelled after online speculation.
Basildon Borough Council has confirmed that these comments are “incorrect”, and that the event will be taking place on November 14. More details about activities and timings will be shared in due course.
A spokesperson from Basildon Borough Council shared: “The Council can confirm that the Basildon Christmas event will take place as planned on Saturday 14 November. We are aware of comments circulating on social media regarding the event.
“These comments are incorrect. There are no plans to cancel the Basildon Christmas event, and preparations are continuing as normal. Further details about the event, including timings and activities, will be shared in due course through the Council’s usual communication channels.”
