Chelmsford shopping: The new art pop-up store which has opened in former Topshop site in High Chelmer Shopping Centre

A new art pop-up shop in Chelmsford has opened on the premises of a former Topshop store.

The Art Place opened recently in the premises of the old Topshop in High Chelmer Shopping Centre.

It’s since hosted several events, such as the Chelmsford Fringe Festival, and will launch an art exhibition on Monday (December 6).

The Essex exhibition is called “Where is Home?” and explores nationality, where you live, and how the pandemic has affected people’s sense of “home”.

Describing the event on the exhibition’s website, the Ideas Hub, which launched the pop-up shop, said: “In a month that can make many people feel quite isolated, this exhibition aims to bring people together who can relate to this feeling and hopefully will make them feel less alone finding new meanings, getting inspired, and having meaningful chats.”

The pop-up isn’t just a shop, as it’s also a gallery, maker space, artist studio, shop and workshop area.

The Art Place has a second site in the Meadows Shopping Centre, Chelmsford.

Edith Miller, from the Ideas Hub, said: “I cannot explain how excited I am to see the project “Where is Home’ finally taking place in our gallery next week.

“We have such a beautiful mix of backgrounds and cultures taking part in the same space with so many different disciplines and expressions of art and creativity.”

The exhibition is free and is running from from December 6 to Christmas Eve, seven days a week.
