Popular Essex golf course a ‘social playground’ shuts

It has shut temporarily while a consultation is in progress regarding the permanent closure of the venue

A ‘social playground’ in Romford has closed temporarily while it considers closing on a permanent basis. Mulligans is a chain of indoor entertainment venues across the UK known primarily for its heavily themed, multi-hole crazy golf courses.

In addition to adventure golf, Mulligans venues function as competitive socializing hubs, generally featuring fully licensed bars, restaurants, and a wide variety of activities. The Romford venue opened in December 2025, taking over from Bunkers, in the Brewery.

However, the Romford branch closed temporarily this month whilst the brand considers closing the store permanently. A spokesperson from Mulligans said: “We can confirm that Mulligans Romford is currently closed, whilst we consider closing on a permanent basis.

“Following a sustained period of review, the business has made the difficult decision to begin a formal consultation process regarding the proposed closure of this venue. Over a considerable period, significant effort, investment and operational focus has gone into trying to improve performance at the venue. Our priority right now is to look after our team and our customers.

“We are in contact directly with all our customers regarding refunds and planned visits. We want to express our heartfelt thanks to all involved on the journey to date and say thank you to the local community in Romford for the support and welcoming Mulligans Romford with open arms.”
