Woman dies days after assault as man accused of murder

A woman has died days after she was seriously injured in an assault in Jaywick.

Essex Police rushed to Beach Way on Friday, April 23, with reports of a woman being seriously injured following an assault in Beach Way around 10.30pm.

The woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with life-threatening head injuries but sadly died there on Sunday (April 25).

Police have now confirmed that Bobby Nethercott, 31, of Park Square East in Jaywick, has been charged with murder and two counts of ABH in connection with the same incident.

He has been remanded in custody before appearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday 27 April).

Five other people have also arrested in connection with the incident and have all been released on bail.

Police confirmed the following:

  • A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of affray has been released on bail until May 22.
  • A 20-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been further arrested on suspicion of murder and affray and has been released on bail until May 24.
  • A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been further arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been released on bail until May 20.
  • A 25-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been further arrested on suspicion of murder and affray. She has been released on bail until May 24 and will face no further action for attempted murder.
  • A 17-year-old arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been further arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released on bail until May 21.
