The traditional Essex pub with a roaring fire perfect for a cosy winter lunch

Is there anything better than a cosy pub this time of year when the weather is cold and wet – I’m not sure. Thankfully here in Essex, we have plenty of traditional, cosy pubs that offer just that.

Many of our pubs also have a traditional feel, including having open fires which add that extra touch of cosiness. One of those pubs is The Anchor in Danbury.

The Anchor, on Runsell Green, is full of charm and is a great place to visit all year round, but particularly in the winter. With traditional beams, exposed brickwork and quaint decor, this pub is bursting at the seams with character.

This pub is also perfect for the whole family, including those with four legs as it is completely dog friendly. The Anchor also has a large garden perfect for summer visits and there is a playground area for kids.

If you fancy some food, The Anchor has a menu all week long. You can get lighter lunches like sandwiches and baguettes with a variety of fillings as well as dine from the main meal menu.

On the menu, you will find pub classics like ham, egg and chips, cottage pie, chilli con Carne and more. There are also grilled meals like steak, fish fillets, pasta, jacket potatoes and more.
