There are a range of places for anybody and everybody here in Essex, from our 350 miles of beautiful coastline to serene countryside and bustling cities. Its a very popular place for commuters too, attracting people who work in London all the while avoiding pricey living costs in the capital.
But its also said to be an area where the elderly go to retire – particularly our seaside towns. Nestled in the north of our wonderful county lies a town that is said to be just that, according to a TikTokker.
Taking a trip to none other than Clacton-on-Sea, TikTok star Dilan Kurt spoke to residents about how they feel about the area, as well as giving his own views on the town. Kicking off the video, he claimed that Clacton is “where people from Dagenham come to retire”.
Speaking to one resident, when asked his opinions on the town, he quickly and simply responded: “It’s a f*****g s******e innit”. Dilan responded: “It is. I feel like I’m in the 70s.”
He later described Clacton as ‘like Brighton’ after spotting the town’s ferris wheel. Dilan later revealed that his first ever holiday was right here in Clacton too when he was 2-years-old.
Later, it was pointed out a number of shut-down shops in Clacton High Street in particlar, the Wilko store, in which he asked: “How is your Wilkos shut down?”
Of course, Essex is famous for our amusements along seafronts, most notably in Southend. But Clacton has one too, which Dilan described as almost being like in Vegas. He added that the amusements was “amazing”. Other people described the town as “not too bad”.
We at EssexLive think Clacton gets way too much hate. It’s a brilliant place to go for families who love a lot of entertainment – after all, who does actually enjoy just laying on the sand all day!
Clacton-on-Sea boasts an array of entertainment facilities including a pleasure pier which also has plenty of arcades to keep the kids entertained for hours on end. There are also two theatres at Clacton; the Princes and the West Cliff Theatres, as well as a golf course, seafront walks, water sports and an airfield offering pleasure flights.
There is endless entertainment to keep the entire family entertained far better than any other seaside town in the area. So although it has developed a bit of a reputation over the years, we think that Clacton-on-Sea is perfect for families who love endless entertainment from shopping to arcades and a calendar full of events. For this reason alone, we think it deserves at least a little it more love than it usually gets.
