The delays drivers face as lorry sheds ‘animal waste’ onto road

Drivers are facing 90-minute delays on the M25 after a lorry carrying “animal waste” shed its load.

Police were called to the Holmesdale Tunnel shortly before 3pm today (Tuesday, August 25) between junction 26 for Waltham Abbey, Essex, and junction 25 for Enfield.

Three lanes remain closed as police and recovery vehicles work to clear the load which has spilt onto the motorway and blocked the road.

There are delays of up to 90 minutes heading anticlockwise and queues are nearly six-miles long.

Drivers are being warned to expect long delays to their journeys and to find an alternative route if possible.

Highways England tweeted: “If travelling in #Hertfordshire #Essex this afternoon pls be aware there are LONG DELAYS on approach to this incident #M25 anti-clockwise incident #HolmesdaleTunnel.

“There are approx. 5 miles of congestion which is expected to add 60-90 mins to usual travel times.”
