Armed police closed ASDA supermarket in Chadwell Heath on Saturday night after an incident in Dagenham.
Police were called to reports of an attempted robbery just after 8.30pm.
They were alerted to an incident where it was reported a group of males were armed and attempting a forced entry to an address in Fullerton Avenue.
Due to the weapon reports, armed police were deployed to the scene.
Two of the males were arrested there, however, another two fled and were later found at a supermarket nearby.
As a precaution, police closed the supermarket – which is now open.
A spokesman for Met Police said: Called 20:36hrs to reports of males attempting to force entry to address in Fullerton Ave #Dagenham.
“Reported to be armed with weapons & so armed officers were among those who attended – x2 males quickly arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
“Two other males believed to have fled scene. Traced to supermarket in #WhaleboneLaneNorth – store evacuated/ closed as precaution.
“Both males located & arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
“No reports of any injuries at initial scene or at supermarket. No shots fired by police.
“Supermarket has re-opened. All males in custody & enquiries ongoing.”
