Save money and boredom courtesy of English Heritage’s half-term happenings!

Parents, grandparents and carers will rejoice in hearing that English Heritage has a range of half-term happenings at its sites this February.

 

Providing the chance to banish the boredom, families can join characters from the past for heritage-inspired hijinks or get involved with some hands-on shenanigans at the charity’s sites across the country.

Here’s our pick of what’s happening!

Audley End House and Gardens, Essex.

Half-term history makers – take part in butler school and discover life above and below stairs. Meet the horses in the stables and explore the playground.

When: February 15 to February 23 between 10am and 4pm.

Brodsworth Hall, Doncaster.

Join Victorian storytellers as they invite children to go down the rabbit hole to create a version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. From drawing to dressing up, it will be fun for all ages.

Eltham Palace and Gardens, London.

Meet Anne and George Boleyn as they explore Anne’s rise at the Tudor Court or have a go at courtly etiquette, fighting and dance to make you stand out from the crowd at court. Medieval games are on the agenda too.

When: February 15 to February 23 between 10am and 4pm.

Warkworth Castle, Northumberland.

Step back in time to medieval England and learn how to be a knight in the expert led sword school. Meet infamous characters from the past and hear of their deeds, then decide their fate in our raucous ‘top of the chops’ show.

When: February 22 to March 2 between 10am and 4pm.

Dover Castle, Kent.

Join characters from the past and embark on a journey through time with Happening History’s marvellous magic lantern show! Witness the wonders of the first ever moving images and experience the magic which captivated audiences more than a century ago.

Stonehenge, Wiltshire.

The iconic site is not just for children, any age will enjoy learning how to use archaeological evidence to reveal what people might have looked like thousands of years ago and there’s the opportunity to have a go at reconstruction too!

When: February 15 to February 23 between 10am and 4pm.
