Popular Essex splash park reopens after 17-month closure

A popular splash park in Essex has reopened 17 months after closing down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Maldon Splash Park, found in Promenade Park, opened for the first time this year on Thursday, July 1.

In a statement released on Facebook, Maldon Council said: “It’s time for the moment you’ve all been waiting for… We are back from 1 July 2021.

“Following a 17-month absence, we are pleased to announce that the Splash Park is back from 1 July 2021.

“We have been busy behind the scenes over the last few months getting everything ready to welcome you all back safely.”

This will be welcome news to the thousands of families and children who have missed the water park, especially last summer.

The park made the difficult decision not to reopen after the first lockdown last year, as to do so would have put “users at risk”, according to the operators.

Aside from assessing the Covid risks, the park had to undergo some repairs before they were able to announce the reopening.

Work took place on the park in June, including some floor repairs that were deemed necessary after a recent inspection.

There have also been several new measures put in place at the park to ensure it is a Covid-secure environment for its visitors.

These include a one-way system, hand sanitiser stations, improved queuing and waiting areas, and increased cleaning.

The park said that they have introduced a “touch-free online booking system which allows you to book your session and pay for your tickets online”.

The park will be open every day from 11am-5:30pm during the months of July and August.
