Police seen chasing driver ‘shouting stop’ after Essex crash

Police were spotted chasing a driver who tried to flee the scene of a crash in Essex last night.

A driver crashed a vehicle Braintree last night, then tried to run away but was detained shortly after.

The man, from Braintree, was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop, and assault on an emergency worker.

Liam Atkins, 31, an account manager, from Notley Road, Braintree, heard some of the drama, and also witnessed some of it.

He said: “We’ve got single-glazed windows so we can hear quite a lot outside.

“So around 10ish I heard a load of commotion outside, so I looked out the window because I could hear a load of footsteps, and saw about three or four police officers running down the road shouting ‘stop’, trying to get him (the suspect) to stop running.

“And then they bundled him just before the bridge on Notley Road, and after that, the emergency services arrived.”
