Police given dispersal powers after anti-social behaviour in Leigh-on-Sea

Police have been given dispersal powers tonight (May 30) after incidents of anti-social behaviour were recorded this afternoon in Leigh-on-Sea.

Essex Police have the power to move anyone on if they are believed to be behaving anti-socially.

The order commenced at 7pm and is in place until 11.59pm tomorrow.

The earlier behaviour which police were reacting to included people gathering in public places.

Police also reported that some were consuming alcohol and acting in an anti-social manner.

In a statement, Essex Police said: “A dispersal order has been put in place in Leigh-on-Sea following anti-social behaviour earlier today.

“The order is in place from 7 pm today (Sunday 30 May) until 11.59 pm tomorrow (Monday 31 May).

“It follows reports of people congregating in the area and consuming alcohol in public places and behaving anti-socially.

“The order has been put in place to prevent crime and disorder and prevent people living in the area being harassed, alarmed or distressed.

“It gives officers powers to move anyone believed to be behaving anti-socially from the area.”
