A jewellers in Chelmsford has closed down and now could be replaced by a new opticians. Alistair Stewart Jewellers in London Road, Chelmsford has closed and the frontage of the store has been completely boarded over.
The jewellers has operated in the city for several years, and no reason has been given for the closure. Its website is offline and Facebook page is no longer available to access.
Now, a planning application has been submitted to transform the unit into an opticians. Applications have been submitted to Chelmsford City Council for a new store frontage along with a new illuminated sign at the store entrance.
Documents submitted to the council show that James Bryan Opticians are looking to open in the unit. The company is an independent opticians that has been operating out of the Meadows Shopping Centre for many years.
It is unclear if the company intends to shut its existing store to move into the unit on London Road, or whether two stores will operate at the same time.
The application will be decided by Chelmsford City Council’s planning committee at a later date.
