More storms predicted in Essex this weekend after floods batter county

Another stormy night could be on its way this weekend after downpours and flooding battered parts of the county on Friday (June 25).

Images of flooded roads over parts of west Essex and east London as well damage caused by a ‘tornado’ in Barking have filled social media, highlighting the impact caused by the freak weather event.

Heavy downpours and flash floods have left considerable damage over parts of county on the border of Essex and London, including Gidea Park, Collier Row, Harold Hill and Loughton.

While the Met Office has not issued any official warnings over the weekend for Essex, weather forecasts from the BBC are predicting storms and showers to hit parts of Essex on Sunday evening and throughout the night into Monday morning.

Below is the BBC forecast for parts of Essex where storms will hit this evening (June 27).

Basildon

On Sunday, light rain showers are predicted for most of the day.

Thundery showers are due to hit from 9pm until around 11pm.

There is over 70 per cent chance of thunder on the Sunday evening so it is looking likely, and more rain is expected once the thunder passes over.

Chelmsford

Light rain showers are predicted across most of the day on Sunday in Chelmsford, Essex.

Thundery showers are then forecast shortly after midnight before more rain until about 3am.

Braintree

Similarly to its neighbours, light rain showers are forecast for Braintree for Sunday.

Thundery showers look set to hit at around 1am on Monday morning with plenty more expected on Monday afternoon.

Southend-on-Sea

Southend-on-Sea looks less likely to be hit by thunder over the Sunday.

Similarly it has light rain showers forecast throughout the day and then around a 50 per cent chance of thundery showers between 9pm and 11pm.

Grays

Light rain showers are forecast for Grays for most of the day on Sunday before thundery showers hit between 9pm to 1am into Monday morning.

Barking

After witnessing a ‘tornado’ and flash flooding, residents in Barking might be hoping for a night of peace.

Thundery showers however are due on Sunday evening between 10pm through to 2am on Monday with a likelihood of around 80 per cent.
