If you know anyone from Chelmsford, they are likely to say that the city is no stranger to change. Whether they view it as positive or negative, there are often businesses keen to open up in the city or developers wanting to build homes in the area.
The Meadows Shopping Centre is the city’s smaller complex, the younger sibling to the High Chelmer perhaps, but it has a good reputation for smaller stores. It’s newest face is the R&R Mini Mart, an international supermarket selling all sorts of products.
I’ve made it clear in the past that I think Chelmsford is a fantastic city to live and grow up in. I also think it’s got a great set of restaurants, shops and other businesses. So I love that another independent business has opened up in the city.
I visited the shop last week, just days after it first opened. Its rainbow of bright colours from the fruit section makes it an eye-catching shop when walking through the Meadows.
It sells he classics, such as Lucozade and Monster cans, but it also has an impressive fruit and vegetable area at the front of the shop. The shop has a great and easy-to-navigate layout and plenty of products to look at.
In addition to huge bags of rice and pasta and all sorts of seeds, nuts, and seasonings, there are plenty of tasty-looking drinks. From African and Caribbean favourites to Asian, Middle Eastern, British, South American, European, and Mediterranean flavours, there’s something for everyone, and it all seems pretty low-cost, meaning there could be some great bargains to be found.
I’m often a fan of trying new things, and I was amazed to see the range on offer: Fanta lemon, different Lipton flavours, Supermalt drinks, and so much more. Having never tried Fanta Exotic before, I opted for a couple of cans of it, and it’s fair to say it’s probably my new favourite drink.
There is a trend of people feeling that independent shops are disappearing from high streets and town centres. Hopefully, R&R Mini Mart will be a success story that encourages others to come to Chelmsford.
