Images have emerged after a crash on the A13.
The eastbound carriageway in Basildon has been completely blocked off to oncoming traffic after an accident between a motorbike and a lorry.
Emergency services have been at the scene at the Five Bells Interchange for some time.
As of 7.10pm, one lane remained shut.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Two ambulances attended a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry on the A13 heading towards Basildon just after 5.30pm today (Wednesday, January 20). The motorcyclist, an adult male, was transported to Basildon & Thurrock Hospital for treatment.”
The crash is understood to have happened between the A176 junction and A132 South Mayne.
Traffic has been queuing back as far as the Stanford-le-Hope turnoff.
The accident happened within the roadworks restrictions, which had already been causing congestion to motorists throughout the day.
