A famous pie and mash shop is preparing to open a brand new restaurant in Chelmsford city centre.
F. Cooke made headlines on Christmas Eve 2019 when their shop on Broadway Market, Hoxton Street in Hackney closed their doors for good after 120 years in business.
It has now been revealed that the traditional ‘eel and pie’ shop will be moving from East London to Essex.
Signs have been placed in the window of an empty unit in Moulsham Street in Chelmsford, Essex announcing the news of a new restaurant coming soon.
The business has stayed with the Cooke family for more than five generations, with Robert Cooke preparing to run the Chelmsford location.
A note in the window of the shop reads: “Established in 1862, F.Cooke remains the longest serving family run eel and pie house.
“Founded in East London, serving traditional pie and mash and jellied eels, F. Cooke has gone to open many shops including Kingsland Highstreet in Dalston, Hoxton and Broadway Market just to name a few.
“Like many East Enders, F. Cooke is now moving out to Essex where 5th generation Robert Cooke will be opening the doors to serve the same delicious recipe from over 150+ years ago.
“You can expect to be immersed in all the heritage and history which has made F.Cooke a roaring success since the 1900s but with a modern vibe that will leave you craving more.”
An exact opening date for the new pie and mash shop has not yet been confirmed, but jobs are being advertised.
It is expected that F Cooke will open before the end of 2020.
