Essex author Giovanna Fletcher has been confirmed as the latest I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here campmate.
The 35-year-old, who has a large social media following, will be switching her current lifestyle for a few weeks in the cold and damp of Gwrych Castle in Wales.
The hit ITV reality show will look very different this year, with the traditional Australian jungle setting unavailable due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
But fans will be excited to see the show still going ahead, with Ant and Dec set to host a very different and special series right here in the UK.
Giovanna, who was born in Shenfield, Essex, is married to McFly superstar and fellow author Tom Fletcher, and is the sister of TOWIE star Mario Falcone.
The author, presenter, actress, blogger, and vlogger has more than 1.3m Instagram followers and is arguably most famous for her ‘Happy Mum, Happy Baby’ podcast.
While admitting she has a phobia of heights, Giovanna is looking forward to taking on the I’m A Celeb challenge.
Practicing trials with runner beans
Giovanna has revealed how she and her family have practiced the I’m A Celebrity trials with runner beans.
Laughing, Giovanna said they have set their very own eating trials in the past with vegetables.
“Years ago we started doing a runner bean challenge which is based on I’m A Celebrity,” she explained. “It’s where we pretend we are doing an eating trial but actually we are eating our vegetables really fast!
“Challenges like this find a way of becoming part of the family dynamic and I can’t wait to do this.”
Giovanna, who has interviewed dozens of famous faces for her podcast including the Duchess of Cambridge, added: “As soon as I got the call asking if I would take part, it was a no brainer for me as I am such a fan.
“It’s going to be so weird when I arrive, as it will be like stepping inside my TV!
“I’m A Celebrity is such feel good television and I can’t wait to take on the trials and be part of the camp.”
Admitting it will be the longest she will have ever been apart from her family, Giovanna insists, however, that Tom doesn’t wish he was going instead of her.
“No Tom isn’t jealous,” she said. “Out of the two of us, I am the one getting the spiders out the house! He is very proud and excited.
“He knows I have always said I would love to do the programme and it will be exciting for all of them watching me do it!
“Every time we will have a trial, in the back of my mind, I will be thinking about the boys watching and what they are going to be making of it.
“I want to do them proud. It is the longest I have ever been away from them but it is also an amazing opportunity and I know it is something we can talk about for years to come and say ‘remember when mum did that thing!’”
In 2011, McFly’s bassist Dougie Poynter won I’m A Celebrity, and Giovanna revealed the two have had conversations in the lead up to her entering the show.
“He is excited by it,” she said. “He doesn’t think I am bonkers going in as he knows how much I love doing things like this.
“I’ve done treks in the past and I know how great lifestyle things like this can be important for mental health.
“[My social media followers] are going to be surprised, amazingly supportive and I think they will really enjoy it.
“I think as a mum, you struggle with the idea to have a minute to yourself and this is quite a big thing I am taking on! But I am lucky as I know my boys will be very well looked after.”
Asked how the title of ‘Queen of the Castle’ would sound, Giovanna said: “Being Queen would be an absolute joy.
“But I haven’t thought that far ahead. Just doing the show is incredible because I am such a massive fan.”
You can see all the campmates entering the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here 2020 castle on Sunday, November 15.
