Each Essex area’s Covid rate compared to every place in England

Coronavirus infection rates continue to drop across Essex however there is still a long way to go to get the rates down.

Even Essex’s worst affected areas have recorded significant drops in rates over the last few weeks as cases steadily reduce.

Out of the 315 local authorities in England, Tendring – which includes places like Clacton-on-Sea and Frinton – has the highest infection rate in Essex and ranks number 34 in total.

What that means is there are only 33 other places which higher infection rates than Tendring, which currently sits on 386.9 cases per 100,000 in the seven days up to January 28.

Given that just over a month ago most of Essex totally dominated the worst affected areas in England, this is quite a feat – but remains a sign of how much longer we have to go before rates drop even further.

Harlow has the second-highest rate in Essex with 369.8 cases per 100,000 in the same week, placing it at number 45 out of the 315 areas in England.

The worst affected area in England currently is Knowsley in Merseyside with 611.2 closely followed by Sandwell in the West Midlands with 546.8.

Later today Matt Hancock will address MPs in the House of Commons as door-to-door testing begins across parts of England to find “every single case” of the South African variant.
