Curry house hopes to be named ‘most wanted’ in south of England

Maria’s Indian Dining is just one of 10 up at this year’s Southern Curry Awards courtesy of Oceanic Awards in the most wanted restaurant category.

The Coggeshall Road eatery is the only one in Essex to make the list and will hope to beat others from London, Bath, Bristol and more.

The awards aim to celebrate the outstanding restaurants, takeaways, and industry personalities who have helped shape southern England’s vibrant curry culture.

Spokesperson for the first Southern Curry Awards 2026, Irfan Younis said: “We look forward to once again celebrating the finest in the curry scene, recognising the creativity, innovation, and exceptional service that have become synonymous with this beloved cuisine.

“The curry industry has become a vital part of our culture, and these awards recognised the exceptional talents of the individuals and businesses that make it so special.

“We want to congratulate all of our finalists and wish them the best of luck.”

Rim Jhim Spice in Colchester has been nominated in the curry restaurant of the year for the east of England and also the south as a whole.

Maharani in Colchester has also been nominated as part of the awards in the dining experience of the year category.
