It will be a ‘calm, inclusive and judgement-free’ space
An activity-filled evening specifically for SEND children will be taking place at Colchester Zoo this summer. On May 30, SEND Fest will take place at Colchester Zoo for an after-hours experience designed exclusively for children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families.
This unique evening event invites families to step into a relaxed, welcoming, and sensory-aware environment, where they can enjoy the magic of the zoo without the usual daytime pressures. From 6pm to 9pm, guests will have access to all of the wonderful experiences Colchester Zoo has to offer, as well as some added extras, including free sand art and free face painting.
The event will be supported by a team of advocates from Stories About Autism (SAA) and Independence Project, who will be on hand to support families whenever needed. Plus, Essex County Council SEND support services, such as Essex Local Offer and Essex Family Forum, will also be joining the event.
The Independence Project says: “This wonderful event offers a calm, inclusive, and judgement-free space where families can relax, connect, and enjoy quality time together.” SEND Fest at Colchester Zoo tickets are available here.
SEND Fest is a private, ticketed event and is not covered by the zoo’s annual pass. Tickets are limited and must be booked in advance.
