A Braintree pub will donate £1 for every main meal purchased by customers to charity for the rest of the year. The Hare and Hounds pub in Braintree will be choosing a different local charity each month to give the money the raise to.
The first month’s charity, for April 2022, will be The Liam Taylor Legacy, set up by the grandmother of murdered teen Liam Taylor after he was stabbed to death outside a pub in Writtle in January 2020. The charity, run by Julie Taylor, is raising money to buy bleed control kits for local businesses.
At the end of April, the Hare and Hounds will put together a vote to decide which charity they will be raising money for in May. The pub hopes to run some fundraising events during the summer as well, including the ‘Summer Family Fun Day’ at the end of July.

Michael, who runs the Hare and Hounds, said: “I think it’s important to help where we can. We’re fortunate to be in a position to do so. So giving back is the right thing to do.
“The charities we will be supporting will be small, local ones as it’s vital that these types of charities get the support they desperately need.”
The money raised will come from donating £1 from every main meal the pub sells each month. These meals include classic pub fare like beef lasagne, fish and chips and gammon, egg and chips, or a selection of hearty sandwiches like a traditional BLT or a stunning-sounding sausage and sautéed mushroom.
