Boy, 12, seriously injured after being hit by car as man arrested

A 12-year-old boy has been left seriously injured after a car hit him near an Essex roundabout.

Emergency services rushed to Middleborough roundabout in Colchester, near the A134 Balkerne Hill, shortly before 2.30pm today following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car (Sunday, April 18).

While at the scene, emergency services found a boy seriously injured. He has since been taken to hospital.

A 31-year-old man from Colchester has also been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and driving over the prescribed drug limit.

The road is also currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

Police say that the road closure is expected to lift soon, but are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek an alternative route where possible.

A spokesperson at Essex Police said: “We are currently on scene at a serious collision in Colchester.

“A car was in collision with a pedestrian shortly before 2.30pm today (Sunday, April, 18) along Westway, near the Middleborough roundabout.

“A 12-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“A 31-year-old man from Colchester has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and driving over the prescribed drug limit.

“The road closure is expected to lift soon, but motorists are urged to avoid the area where possible.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dash cam footage is asked to contact us on 101 or submit a report online. The incident number to quote is 646 of April 18.”
