Arrest made as new statement released on Colchester murder enquiry

Detectives investigating the alleged murder of a man in Colchester have made a third arrest.

A 19-year-old man from Colchester was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder on Sunday, December 13.

He remained in custody where he was being questioned as of 9.05pm on Sunday night, Essex Police said.

Officers were called to reports of an incident on Affleck Road on the Greenstead estate shortly after 12.15am on Friday, December 11.

A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene.

A teenager found inside the property was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A local 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and as of 9.05pm he remains in custody for questioning. 

A 20-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail pending further investigation.

One local couple told Essex Live after the incident that they were “frightened out of their lives” by the incident.

Mr and Mrs Trott, who live along Hawthorne Avenue, said: “To happen right before Christmas, it is awful.

“It’s getting too close to home. I have a grandson that age. My heart goes out to the parents and family.”

Afishetu Oshiotare, who lives just off Hawthorne Road, told us: “I am very shocked.

“Now I’m afraid. I don’t know what’s going on.”
