Armed police and dog units chase car on A12 after suspected shooting

Armed police and dog units swarmed the A12 last night after reports of a shooting in Essex.

Essex Police received reports yesterday afternoon that a man had been shot on Beach Road in Jaywick (Friday, July 2).

Firearms units, along with unarmed officers from Tendring, were sent to the scene at around 2.15pm but no suspects or weapon could be found.

Later on, a car connected to the incident was seen travelling on the A12, prompting a pursuit by Essex Police.

A stinger device was deployed, and the car was boxed in by officers.

A helicopter was also called in to assist teams on the ground, as well as dog units, and a weapon – which turned out to be an air weapon – was recovered near to where the car had been stopped in the bushes.
