A12 crash: Man dies and two people arrested as road shuts for hours

A man has died and two people remain in custody after a major crash closed the A12 for hours.

Police and paramedics were called to the busy stretch near Chelsmford shortly before 11.50am today (June 21).

Reports from motorists suggested there were three ambulances, three fire engines, and the air ambulance at the crash site.

Police officers have now confirmed a man died in hospital following the incident.

Meanwhile two men – who have not been identified – have been arrested.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A man has sadly died after a collision on the A12 earlier today, 21 June.

“The collision took place southbound between HatfieldPeverel and Boreham at around 11.50am.

“The man, who was driving a blue Honda Jazz, died at hospital.

“Two men have been arrested.

“We need to speak to anyone who saw the Jazz – which joined at Copdock – or a blue V50 Sport Volvo driving prior to the collision or who has dashcam of the incident itself.”
