10 Essex neighbourhoods have seen their coronavirus infection rate more than double within the past week.
According to Public Health England (PHE) data for the 7 days to April 2, there were 10 neighbourhoods in Essex where coronavirus infections have increased by more than 100 per cent.
The infection rates, given by PHE, track how many new Covid-19 cases were recorded in a given area per 100,000 residents.
The latest data, which compared cases between March 26 to April 2, showed most of the Essex neighbourhoods that have seen the largest increase in Covid cases are situated in the south of the county.

Southend, Castle Point, Basildon and Thurrock neighbourhoods were among those in south Essex that recorded the highest rises in the county.
The council ward of Leigh, in the district of Southend, has seen the biggest rise in the number of coronavirus cases, with the neighbourhood recording an additional 29 coronavirus cases within the 7 days to April 2.
This means that the neighbourhood has seen a whopping 1450 per cent rise in coronavirus infections.
Neighbouring ward, West Leigh, recorded the next sharpest rise in covid-19 infections, with an additional 6 coronavirus cases – a 300 per cent increase from the 7 days to April 2.
Similarly, other areas in the county also recorded a sharp increase in coronavirus cases – with the rate of infection more than doubling in just one week.

Leigh (Southend) – up by 29 cases / 1450 per cent
West Leigh (Southend) – up by 6 cases / 300 per cent
Shenfield & Hutton Mount (Brentwood) – up by 3 cases / 150 per cent
Benfleet North (Castle Point) – up by 3 cases / 150 per cent
Springfield North (Chelmsford) – up by 7 cases / 140 per cent

Loughton East (Epping Forest) – up by 2 cases / 100 per cent
Basildon Central & Pipps Hill (Basildon) – up by 2 cases / 100 per cent
Alresford, Great Bentley & Thorrington (Tendring) – up by 2 cases / 100 per cent
Horkesley Heath, Langham & Dedham (Colchester) – up by 2 cases / 100 per cent
North Ockendon (Thurrock) – up by 2 cases / 100 per cent
